| I write separately from the inking up. I'm sure this varies from cartoonist to cartoonist; I find that the writing is the hard part and the drawing is the fun part. I like to separate the two so I can give my full attention to one or the other. | | Uncategorized | |
| I'd like to have the opportunity to draw this strip for years and see where it goes. It's sort of a scary thing now to imagine; these cartoonists who've been drawing a strip for twenty years. I can't imagine coming up with that much material. If I just take it day by day, though, it's a lot of fun, and I do think I have a long way to go before I've exhausted the possibilities. | | Uncategorized | |
| I'm not dumb. I just have a command of thoroughly useless information. | | Uncategorized | |

| I'M SIGNIFICANT! screamed the dust speck. | | Life | |
| I'm yet another resource-consuming kid in an overpopulated planet, raised to an alarming extent by Hollywood and Madison Avenue, poised with my cynical and alienated peers to take over the world when you're old and weak. | | Uncategorized | |
| I've got to start listening to those quiet, nagging doubts. | | Uncategorized | |
| If cartoonists would look at this more as an art than as a part time job or a get-rich-quick scheme, I think comics overall would be better. I think there's a tremendous potential to be tapped. | | Uncategorized | |
| If life is just a stage, then we are all running around ad-libbing, with absolutely no clue what the plot is. Maybe that's why we don't know whether it's a comedy or tragedy. | | Uncategorized | |
| If people sat outside and looked at the stars each night, I'll bet they'd live a lot differently. | | Uncategorized | |
| If someone wants to be a cartoonist, let's see him develop his own strip instead of taking over the duties of someone else's. We've got too many comic strip corpses being propped up and passed for living by new cartoonists who ought to be doing something of their own. If a cartoonist isn't good enough to make it on his own work, he has no business being in the newspaper. | | Uncategorized | |
| If something is so complicated that you can't explain it in 10 minutes, than it's probably not worth knowing anyways. | | Uncategorized | |

| If you do the job badly enough, sometimes you don't get asked to do it again. | | Uncategorized | |
| If you don't have anything to say just keep quiet! Provoking a reaction isn't the same as saying something significant. Expressing ideas if you can't make them understood. You're just babling to yourself! | | Uncategorized | |
| If you have the personalities down, you understand them and identify with them; you can stick them in any situation and have a pretty good idea of how they're going to respond. Then it's just a matter of sanding and polishing up the jokes. But if you've got more ambiguous characters or stock stereotypes, the plastic comes through and they don't work as well. These two characters clicked for me almost immediately and I feel very comfortable working with them. | | Uncategorized | |

| It took hundreds of years for these woods to grow, and they leveled it in a week. It's gone. After they build new houses here, they'll have to widen the roads and put up gas stations, and pretty soon the whole area will just be a big strip. Eventually there won't be a nice spot left anywhere. I wonder if you can refuse to inherit the world. | | Uncategorized | |
